Under the Hip Replacement surgery, a painful hip joint with arthritis is removed and replaced by an artificial joint which is made of plastic and metal parts. This stage comes when all the procedures and treatments have been failed to provide you relief from your hip joint pains. The hip Replacement procedure is also known as Hip Arthroplasty in medical language. The main reason behind hip replacement surgery is osteoarthritis. It creates multiple problems for the patients like swelling, pain, and trouble in walking. When a patient is not able to recover from hip and joint pain, Hip replacement surgery is a good option for the patient. During hip replacement surgery, the surgeon mainly removes damaged cartilage and bone from the hip joint and replaces with new artificial joints or man-made joints. Why is Hip Replacement Surgery necessary? Hip replacement surgery is the final stage when a patient is unable to recover from joints pain and is not able to walk properly. Even, the medicines are not providing any relief to the patient. So, only hip placement surgery option is left for the patient. Hip Replacement Surgery can be done by two ways- Either by traditional method or by a minimal-invasive technique. During the hip replacement surgery, the patient is given anesthesia to relax the muscles and keep him/her into a deep sleep for a temporary phase. However, a spinal anesthetic might be given to the patient for providing pain relief as an alternative. While performing the hip replacement surgery, the doctor makes a cut in the side of the hip and move the muscles attached to the top of the thighbone which exposes the hip joint. After that, the ball portion of the joint is taken out by cutting the thighbone. Then, an artificial joint is attached to the thighbone with the help of cement or some scientific material for adjusting the new artificial joint to the bone. The doctor attaches the hip replacement socket to the hipbone by keeping the surface of the hipbone ready after removing the damaged cartilage. The new ball of the thighbone is inserted into the socket which is the part of the hip. A drain is also attached to for draining the fluid. Thereafter, the doctor readjusts the muscles and finally closes the incision. This stage is called total hip replacement surgery. In the most cases, the standard hip replacement surgery takes place where a doctor usually makes an 8 to 10 inches one cut along the side of the hip. While in the minimally-invasive technique, the doctor gives 2 to 5 inches one or two cuts on your hip side. There are always pros and cons of both above discussed hip replacement techniques. In minimally-invasive technique, small cuts are made on the hip side which help the patient with lesser blood lose, quick healing or early discharge from the hospital. But, this technique is suitable for the patient if it is performed by qualified doctors with adequate knowledge. Otherwise, traditional method of total hip replacement surgery is considered to be more successful and has the impeccable success rate.
