Piston pin is a medium of connection between piston and connecting rod. The structure of a Piston pin is simple cylindrical shaft that can be solid or hollow. It has a chamfer at its ends. In the Piston, the pin is held by the circlips and from the middle portion it is coverd by the connecting rod.Piston pins are mostly made up of alloy carburised steel. Application : In internal combustion engines, the gudgeon pin is used to connects the piston to the connecting rod and it provides a bearing for the connecting rod to pivot upon when the piston moves.
Piston Ring : A piston ring is a metallic split ring used to connect to the outer surface of a piston in an steam engine or internal combustion engine. Piston ring is mostly made up of cast iron or steel. It is an expandable split ring that is used to provide a seal between the Piston in the cylinder walls. Application :
3 piston rings are required in most automative pistons. There are 2 rings in top while one is used for controlling oil and they are primarily for compression sealing.
