“POLLUTION” the word itself is enough to be thought upon in recent times we have seen some of the worst effects of pollution on the environment as well as human body especially children. The people of Delhi have to go through this trauma every day as the city has been ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world and this problem seems to have no end as the rate of people suffering from diseases such as Asthma, Weak sightedness, Skin Infections, etc. are on the rise everywhere. The root cause of this problem is Pollution it may be any form of Air Pollution, Land Pollution and Water Pollution no matter what form it may it has been the cause of largest environmental catastrophe which causes harmful disease and accounts for increasing death rate in the world. It is estimated that pollution is responsible for 9 million deaths per year and a total of 16% of total death recorded around the world you will be shocked to know that it is approx. 3 times more than dying rate than from AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. Firstly, we need to understand the harmful effects of air pollution on children, to begin with, let’s look what causes Air Pollution, there are various forms the major ones are traffic fumes, smoking tobacco, smoke from chemical industries, burning garbage, etc. all these factors contribute in air pollution. If this polluted air is breathed in by children it can cause a lot of damage to their lungs and give them a lot of medical problems. The air is not only polluted outdoors but the indoor air is also very dangerous if you are living in the polluted city because certain gases are not purified even through air filters in homes nowadays. There have been some studies regarding the harmful effects of air pollution and some shocking discoveries have been made it is proven that if the baby is exposed to an even a little bit of air pollution in the womb it malfunctions their formation of lungs. If the amount of polluted air is higher inside the baby’s lung it even led to some serious complications such as premature birth and decline in the body weight of the baby. Even after baby’s birth they are still more like to be affected by the polluted air than grown adults and continued breathing of polluted air results in
Amongst all the types of Pollution, this one is considered the most dangerous one as it spread more rapidly than others and once it gets into your system it can very well damage even a healthy human being. Just make sure children are away from such places where a high density of air pollution is present or someone smoking a cigarette as passive smoking is equally dangerous as the person smoking it is. Land Pollution is rising at a rapid rate due to the garbage being dumped in landfills and making the land barren and even poisonous this causes mixing of harmful chemicals which in turn makes the surroundings un residential and kids are the most vulnerable ones when it comes to being infected by any disease caused by the pollution. Today the world is facing a major cause of disabilities amongst children which is affecting their learning capacity and also is reducing their lifespan. More than 140,000 chemicals are also being used as pesticides on crops these chemicals are very harmful to children pregnant women as it damages the cells in the body to regenerate tissues for a healthy life. Earth is called a blue planet because of abundance of water but it is not pure anymore. Water pollution has widespread due to the sewage disposal in seas, rivers, ponds, etc. and chemical being thrown in oceans without their proper assessment of the after effects. Humans have contaminated the oceans since the beginning it is up to us how to stop putting contaminated materials in water and stop this pollution so that water can be saved all around the world. The water filters are proving to be inefficient and children are the at a higher risk as their immune system is not as strong as a full-grown adult day by day it is becoming difficult to drink water from the tap as the water is not filtered and if some intakes contaminated water than the body of that person will be affected with diseases such as diarrhea, constipation, infection to internal organs, etc. We all must take responsibility to stop polluting our environment so that our children can have healthy and a brighter future, also teach children about importance of environmental education or else the human race will perish under the harmful outcome of our own wrong doings.
