2019 is here! Are you looking to make headway on the your New Year resolutions and finally hit the gym? Well, whether you are just prepping up or are a 5-day-workout fanatic, you shouldn’t end up empty handed when you visit the gym – and worse end up borrowing deodorant or protein bar from the guy doing his bench presses next to you.
Between your hand towels, clothes, snacks and toiletries sometimes packing for gym class may feel like you’re going on short vacation and you might just call it day. But trust us, it doesn’t have to be so cumbersome. More so this list will just end up making your pre and post workout life way simpler.
Hand Towels
Now most of us sweat and sweat a lot specially during circuit training, that hot yoga class or session of Zumba. We’d recommend you to carry at least two hand towels, one that you can use during your workout session and one to clean up yourself post-workout. If you sweat more than usual, you could invest in a microfiber towel that stays dry and will draw more sweat compared to a regular towel.
Water Bottle
This one just seems like a given but trust us this is one essential that is easily forgotten. Try keeping at least a one-litre water bottle in your bag at all times. Water during and post your work out session is a necessity.
Footwear
Whether you hit the gym before or after your office hours, you don’t want to end up there in your stilettos or wingtips and rush back home to get your cross-training shoes. We’d recommend you to always keep a pair of workout shoes in your gym bag at all times.
Now, if you’re planning to take a shower and don’t have your flip-flops on, you’re asking for a bad case of fungal infection. Shower rooms are pools of breeding germs and your best bet would be your trusted pair of flip-flops here.
Toiletries
Try and keep a bag that has all your toiletries like
- Sanitiser – because gym equipment is full of germs and can be downright disgusting
- Deodorant – to save yourself from an embarrassing situation in the middle of a workout
- Hair bands – because no matter how many we keep, they still magically disappear
- Wet Wipes – for a wipe down incase your towels get moist
Reusable Plastic Bag
Directly tossing your sweaty gym clothes in to your gym bag is a complete NO-NO. Not only is it unhygienic, it may end up making your gym bag smell foul. That’s why a re-usable gym bag is a must if you want to prevent that odour from spreading.
Power Snacks & Electrolytes
Most of us will agree that we’d like to have some fuel after we pump up some iron. Keep a zip lock back that has your nutrition bars for quick calorie infusion post your workout session.
And for a post workout drink, coconut water is by far the best.
Extra Pair of Gym Clothes
Now you may not really agree with us on this but trust us there will come a day when you’ve driven all the way to the gym only to discover that you’ve forgotten you workout clothes. :)
