Hemogram test normal values vary from one pathology lab to another and involves a number examinations of the blood components. Some of the major tests include- Hematocrit- Hematocrit measures the total volume of Red Blood Cells present in the blood. Hemoglobin- Hemoglobin measures the total amount of oxygen-carrying protein present in the bloodstream. Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) - MCV measures the average size of the Red Blood Cells. A high MCV value indicates that your Red Blood Cells have become larger than normal and leads to health disorder like Anemia. Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH) - MCH measures the average amount of hemoglobin present in a single red blood cell. Red Cell Distribution – RDW width measures the calculation of the variation in the size of Red Blood Cells. Platelet count- It measure the number of platelets present in the blood stream. Both increase and decrease in the platelet count can lead to abnormal conditions like- excessive bleeding and clotting. Red Blood Cell Count- It calculates the actual number of Red Blood Cells present in a sample of blood. White Blood Cell Count- It calculates the actual number of White Blood Cells present in a sample of blood. Reticulocyte count – Hemogram test also includes Reticulocyte count that helps to measure the absolute count or percentage of new Red Blood Cells present in the body. Hemogram test procedure is easy to perform and doesn't involve any preparation. During the test- - The physician wraps a flexible band around the upper arm to stop the flow of blood. This makes the vein to appear more prominently so that the needle can be put easily into the vein. - The doctor will clean the needle site using alcohol, put the needle into the vein and will draw the blood. - The blood drawn is put in a container, and the elastic band is removed. - A cotton ball is put after the needle is removed. The hemogram test cost is inexpensive in nature and possesses no further threat or risk. It’s also imperative to know that, the reference range for CBC test or hemogram test varies depending on the gender and age of the patient.
