Human factors engineering is a synonym of ergonomics. Ergonomics is that discipline in which we can study about humans behaviour either physically or psychologically when they are in relation to particular environments, services etc. Human factors engineering should be a part of the design and development of a new machine or equipment where there is a engagement between the product and its professional user. Ergonomics is useful in all perspective like helps to minimize overall cost, increase productivity and efficiency. The discussion under the following categories is as follows: 1) Anthropometry: - It is related to the functional body dimensions. The measurement taken of different body positions by movements and motions is known as functional body dimensions. Many problems related to space for doors and passage ways are resolved this method. 2) Static work and posture of body: - It means that worker remains in same position or posture during the task which leads to muscle strain or fatigue. To overcome this situation management should give relaxation to their workers. The waiting time for the next piece of work increases with the skill at which work is performed. A short break in morning and in afternoon should be given. 3) Muscle strength: - When hard physical effort or prolonged physical activity goes on then the muscle strength will gets down or it will damage body in form of muscle strain. So one or two power naps time should be given to the employees. 4) Other factors: - A good management ensures that not much more load given to the workers because worker satisfaction plays the most vital role to give the best productivity, maximize output and profit. A management should be motivate their employees time to time by suitable increments and perks etc. PREPARED BY:- ABHINAV BHATNAGAR(MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT) ROORKEE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
