You must have seen endless number of people playing the Guitar in your college, at the station or even at heritage sites. As music has progressed a wide majority of people have learnt to play guitar, keyboards, drums; the commons. The essence of music isn’t solely denoted through these frequented instruments. A number of instruments have been invented, but sadly a lot of them haven’t been forgotten and some are unfortunately lost or will be shortly. One can easily find a music institute in most cities to take a course on these unconventional instruments. Some of them are as follows: Cello Two musicians come on the stage with their cellos in front of an audience dressed in their best clothes to enjoy an evening of classical music. The musicians start with a piece that seems usual to classical enthusiasts, but, then the tempo picks up. The audience is left awe struck as the instrumentalists start to play the hard rock song Thunderstruck by the Australian rock band ACDC. This cover piece by ‘2Cellos’ is a wonderful example of the prospective of innovation with different instruments. Not to forget, cello has been widely used in the classical and romantic eras. Harmonica From Billy Joel’s ‘Piano Man’ to Led Zeppelin’s ‘When the Levee Breaks’, the use of harmonica shatters the notions of harmonica being a supplementary organ. On the other hand, Bob Dylan was breaking stereotypes by playing solos on Harmonica in several songs. The mouth organ is used around the world in genres such as blues, folk, classical, jazz, country and rock and roll. Saxophone First used in the 1800s, the Saxophone was innovated to give the most powerful and vocal voice to an instrument. Saxophone has been subject to mostly Jazz music, but it was commonly used for classical and romantic pieces. Contemporarily, a lot of rock bands have used the Saxophone, complementing the other instruments. Clarinet This woodwind instrument dates back to 3000 BC. Its musical quality is characterized by a distinct timbre. Clarinets have the largest pitch range among common woodwinds. In classical music, clarinets are part of standard orchestral and concert band instrumentation. So, if your mind sways along with music of Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and the likes, this instrument is perfect match for you. Fortunately enough a few music colleges in Delhi provide courses on this instrument. Banjo The Banjo is associated with Country, folk, Irish tradition and bluegrass music. An unusual characteristic of this instrument is the weight. The sound of the Banjo gets better with its weight and price increases accordingly. While a Guitar’s knowledge helps in learning to play this instrument, it must studied separately. The Banjo has been wonderfully used by the contemporary band ‘Mumford & Sons’. Music lovers find their music exceptional.
